1. We will hold monthly "encounters" at Carville Annex from May 2010 to May 2011 to conduct these experiments. Initially, we will invite artists to display work in the gallery who are exploring portraiture and place, for generative and inspiring examples.

2. Our encounters will include artist talks, interviews, "assignments," discussions, readings, and time for making--whatever methods we discover to continually reactivate our investigations of this place through curiosity about its people.

3. The portraits will build a narrative; the narrative will build more layered portraiture. We'll base each encounter on questions that arise from previous one, adapting and revising in order to build a portrait of this place and its inhabitants that feels true.

4. The final exhibition will be visually-based, and include other mediums, such as performance and readings, and take place in spring of 2011.
